Homo Homine

A response to our current zeitgeist regarding masculinity and its assumptions. I took the stereotypical male - alpha/macho/leader - as a starting point and made him aware of his femininity by unmasking the stereotypes. With my project I want to show that a concept like masculinity is a social construct; thanks to society and its traditions, we reject thinking outside the box with our unconscious prejudices. An interesting contrast is created by taking aspects of masculine ideals from different centuries and then placing them in a modern context to enlarge my vision. For instance, only men were allowed to knit and to wear the colour pink a few centuries ago - quite a difference compared to the gender code of modern society. With my response to the assumptions of the male, I let the viewer look again at what masculinity actually consists of.
